We decided to take away the tv and all video games that did not encourage use of the brain or have a positive influance. We began homeschooling and teaching our children with hands on experiences. Now we don't know everything and yes we still mess up from time to time. But I would have to say that it has paid off. They aren't grown and we don't know what they will be like as adults, but as of now everyone can see the difference between children being raised and those that are simply allowed to grow up. Raising a child would be teaching them how to be good, responsible and well rounded adults, children who are left to their own devices to find themselves are the teens we have that end up in juvinal detention and full of anger. I am not saying that the only way to raise a child is the way we have, I am simply saying you must teach your children not try to control them or completly leave them to figure it out.
I talk to my children and explain why we do what we do. When they are in trouble I make sure the punishment has a lesson in it and explain the way I would rather have had them behave. Yes there are days I have to take many deep breaths and say a prayer before I talk to my children. But I have noticed that their behavor reflects my behavor.
Blessings all have a good day, and hug your children!

Oh I so wish that more parents would consider interacting the way that you interact with your children. I worked several years in a child psychiatric unit and so many of those children told me "I wish my parents would just spend time with me. I wish they would talk to me and explain things to me."
